Buzzing around

This little guy was flitting about from flower to flower and I got lucky he was still long enough to get this shot. Gosh, I love my poppies.

First poppy

The very first poppy of the season! I love them. They are glorious for about 2-3 weeks each summer and then the blooms die off and I am left with a giant ugly spot in my yard. I was hoping to move them to a different location before they bloomed this spring, but didn't get to it in time. I will have to try to get it done later in the summer.

How about a bright spot of color today? With our winter wonderland outside right now, I thought I would share yet another of my poppy photos. By now you know how much I love them!

Poppies! I love them. They are only glorious for a little longer than a month, so I have to take all the pictures I can while they are out.

When the poppies are in full bloom, there is a fine black dust that covers the bottoms of the petals. In this photo you can see the dust beginning to form.

The vibrant orange color of the poppies in our back yard is a real focal point from any of our back windows. We have a patch about 15 x 15 feet and for about a month and a half, they are just glorious. When the seed pods ripen and the flowers die, it isn't so pretty though, and I am considering moving them to the upper most terrace along our back fence so they will still be beautiful to see, but not so obvious when they don't look so wonderful. It is going to be quite a project if I ever get around to it.

It is a hard call for me to pick my favorite flower between sunflowers and poppies. They are both wonderful in their own unique ways. I just love the vibrant color of these poppies and the way the petal edges ruffle.
